On Sunday, Waka Kotahi NZTA transport systems manager Andrew James said about 20m of footpath and the historic chains had been “significantly damaged with the concrete surface and handrail washed away”.

Kūmānū senior landscape architect Lance Roozenburg said there were benefits to the community, economy and even the environment in the ambitious proposal.
Historically the marine saltwater baths – which opened in 1878 – were located near this area and were a popular public destination.
Roozenburg said a large timber decking around the edge of the pool to provide open space for “people to gather and meander and overlook the ocean” had been included in the concept to link with the history of the area. ....

BRADEN FASTIER/Stuff
Priority lanes would be added to this stretch of Waimea Rd, and the existing traffic lights are proposed to be removed and replaced with signalised intersections at Hampden St and Van Dieman St.
Priority lanes on major routes have been chosen as the long-term fix for Nelson s transport problems, with the controversial inland route dropped.
A long awaited programme for the Nelson Future Access project, released on Friday by Waka Kotahi-New Zealand Transport Agency, proposes priority lanes for Waimea Rd and Tahunanui Dr as long-term options, indicated as a 15-year timeline.
