(Bloomberg) Apple Inc.âs App Store had operating margins of 77.8% in fiscal year 2019 and 74.9% in fiscal year 2018, according to testimony from an Epic Games expert witness based on documents obtained from the iPhone maker.
The figures come from the testimony of Ned Barnes, a financial and economics researcher, on behalf of Epic Games. He said he obtained documents âprepared by Appleâs Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis group and produced from the files of Apple CEO T ....

The App Store is an extremely profitable service for Apple, testimony from an Epic Games expert witness claims, with profit margins close to 80% for the digital storefront.
Ahead of Apple s bench trial with Epic Games on May 3, details of the two companies financial dealings and activities are coming to light before opening arguments are made by either side. In the latest revelation, it seems that one of Epic s expert witnesses reckons Apple is earning a lot from the App Store.

Fortnite off the App Store last year, exercising an illegal monopoly over the ubiquitous iOS platform. Apple claims Epic is trying to break the iOS platform’s vaunted safety and security for its own gain. Both parties have laid out how they expect to win their respective cases, and this week, they’ve provided near-final lists of the people they expect to call for testimony.
