The Black Beach Harbor Head Civic Association will go before the conservation commission next month to get permission to put a gate at the entrance of Little Neck Bars Road
FALMOUTH A proposal to put up a gate on a path connected to the Shining Sea Bikeway has stirred up a lot of opposition from locals who use the path to access Black Beach.
Concerns about the longtime problems of vandalism, noise, littering and urination at the beach were why The Black Beach Harbor Head Civic Association proposed installing a gate to a popular access way there.
The Falmouth Conservation Commission discussed the project Wednesday, but after receiving dozens of letters in opposition, did not approve the gate.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a project strike such a raw nerve,” said Vice-Chair Courtney Bird during the Wednesday meeting. “I think we as a commission and a town need to listen to that.”
