SAN ANGELO, TX (Refresh this page for the latest election results) It is Election Day in San Angelo! The polls for the May 1 Election close at 7 p.m. and below are the results as we get them. The first results will be released by the County Elections Office sometime after 7 p.m. Usually, the early and mail-in voting results are released before the Election Day totals.
This election will decide who the Mayor of San Angelo will be for the next four years. Incumbent Mayor Brenda Gunter faced two challengers in real estate agent Silvara Lawson and health care administrator Dietrick Tillis. Lawson proposed an open dialog with citizens to solve problems, akin to a crowd-sourcing leadership style. Tillis wanted the City of San Angelo to become involved in providing opportunities outside normal city functions, like fostering an after school STEM program for children. ....

May 2021 Election: San Angelo voter guide includes dates, ballot info


First day of in-person early voting: Monday, April 19
Last day to return application for ballot by mail: 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 20. Applications are only valid for a calendar year and need to be resubmitted each year. Once early voting begins, the application cannot be delivered in person and only the applicant can deliver their application. Voters are reminded they are able to deliver a voted ballot by mail to the election office for counting only on Election Day. It must be the voter themselves surrendering the ballot and they must show a photo ID.
Last day of in-person early voting: Tuesday, April 27 ....

May Election 2021: San Angelo ISD candidates discuss gender identity


SAN ANGELO   Beginning in August 2022, the state board of education voted to allow seventh- and eighth-grade students in Texas to learn about forms of birth control beyond abstinence, but middle schoolers still won t have to learn about the importance of consent or the definitions of gender identity and sexual orientation.
The candidates running for trustee positions on the San Angelo ISD school board shared their opinion concerning these issues with the Standard-Times.
Three district races on the school board will be decided during the election May 1, 2021. Candidates were sent eight questions and asked to keep their responses limited to 3-4 sentences. Some responses have been edited for clarity and length. ....

May Election 2021: San Angelo ISD candidates say why they're running


SAN ANGELO   The candidates running for trustee positions on the San Angelo ISD school board have several reasons for doing so. From prior service to a passion for education, they shared what motivates them with the Standard-Times.
Three district races on the school board will be decided during the election May 1, 2021. Candidates were sent a questionnaire and asked to keep their responses limited to 3-4 sentences. Some responses have been edited for clarity and length.
Responses not appearing below include those from Collyn Neal Glaspie, Lupita Arroyo and Chris Giroux.
Glaspie suspended his campaign for Single Member District 3 due to personal reasons in late March. School Board trustees voted March 29 to cancel the election for Single Member District 2 after Arroyo ran unopposed and was therefore declared elected to office. Giroux informed the Standard-Times on March 31 he would not participate in the annual election guide for San Angelo voters. ....
