ZIMBABWE are out of the 2021 African Nations Championships (AFCON) after collapsing in the second half to suffer their second successive defeat in Group A against Burkina Faso in Yaounde, Cameroon on Wednesday night.
After losing 1-0 to hosts Cameroon in the opening match of the tournament on Saturday, the locally based band of Warriors needed to avoid defeat in their second match to keep their hopes of reaching the quarterfinals alive.
In the end, it was Burkina Faso who were celebrating as they revived their hopes of reaching the quarter finals with a comfortable win over a depleted Warriors side which was missing several key players due to injuries and illness after the opening match.

WARRIORS coach Zdravko Logarusic has backed his charges to bounce back from the disappointment of their loss to Cameroon in the opening match of the 2021 African Nations Championships (CHAN) as he braces for the second Group A clash against Burkina Faso Wednesday.
Despite frustrating their more fancied opponents for long periods in the opening match of the tournament Zimbabwe were undone by Solomon Banga’s acrobatic finish after 72 minutes to suffer a narrow 1-0 defeat to hosts Cameroon.
The Warriors will however take pride in how they countered and faced Cameroon as they prepare for the next games against Mali and Burkina Faso Wednesday and Sunday respectively.

ZIMBABWE put on a commendable defensive effort but it was not enough as they succumbed to a morale sapping defeat in their first Group A fixture of the 2020 African Nations Championships (CHAN) against hosts Cameroon this Saturday evening.
Although they struggled to create any meaningful chances the Warriors appeared to have done enough to frustrate the reduced 10 000 fans at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde for long periods of the opening match of the tournament which was played in front of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, CAF’s new honorary president Issa Hayatou and Cameroon’s Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute.
Women’s Six Nations postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic Friday, 15 January 2021
This year’s women’s and under-20 Six Nations Championships have been postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the men’s tournament is still expected to go ahead as planned.
Organisers remain confident of staging the women’s event at a later date with this spring or early summer viewed as a possible new timeframe.
The women’s and under-20 tournaments were scheduled to take place alongside the men’s competition, is due to run from February 6 to March 20.
In a statement, Six Nations Rugby confirmed it would finalise the timing and formats for both the women’s and under-20s events in consultation with unions in the hope of announcing full details by the end of this month.

Namibia seek Warriors friendly The Standard

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has approached Zifa requesting an international friendly against the Warriors as they step up preparations for the 2020 African Nations Championships (Chan) finals set for Cameroon next month.
Although it is not clear if Zifa will take up the offer, sources at the local football governing body told Standardsport last week that the NFA had made enquiries about the availability of the Warriors.
Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic recently expressed concern over his players’ lack of competitive match fitness, which has seen him resort to playing local league teams.
