Consumer protection in financial peril that is an independent industry cannot be fired by the president it is not subject to the appropriations power as they are taking a number of actions that are outside of the public visibility for instance they are gathering financial records or creditcard records of hundreds of millions of americans with no discussion that than i could find and knows scrutiny or accountability for what these agencies are doing because you can see they are independent they are not part of the administration but on the other side you have the federal Communications Commission with neutrality it is widely reported in a cave out of the ftc and was directed by the president may be the president should direct the ftc but then there has to be some ownership of that. So there is a lot of examples of domestic overreach and not even owning that bennett hiding behind the various structures of bureaucratic independence which i think is quite troubling. Harassment. Congressman Jason Chaffetz chairs this two hour long meeting. Good morning, the Committee Comes to order and without objection the chair is authorized to call recess. We will have hearing about the National Park service. 2016 represents the hundred year since the park service was founded. We find an agency in crisis. We have good, hard working people who do good service for this nation. They serve the public as attending the parks at record numbers but we are having problems. We should be working to increase visitation and providing recreational opportunities to the American People. The mission of the National Park service to is honor the values for this generation and future generations. But that doesnt work when you have multiple cases of longstanding employee misconduct that is distracting the agency from the mission. There is no doubt when you hire tense of thousands of people there is going to be bad apples. They will cause disruption and heartache to a lot of people i
Saying we need a bigger coast guard, how do you feel about the resource picture now that the fy 17 budget request is in . You mention several of the new major investment strings underway. The growth of the structure and the readiness picture. What most challenges you at this point and executing all of that . I am immensely pleased with our acquisition budget. On the other side we have our operations in maine is, what our operations and maintenance, would cost to do operations and people from under that funding portfolio as well. Were not keeping pace. In fact were fact were not even keeping pace with budget control funding levels. Where funded below that level to sustainer operation so its great that were modernizing, the sustaining piece is still a bit of a challenge for me. Thats work that i need to do in demonstrating how critical that is because lets face it, ive been to enough commissioning ceremonies now more than i have decommissioning ceremonies, thats a good thing, more births
Miss kindle, i want you to weigh into this. You have a transcription . Or what was this interview with the director . We asked jarvis whether looking back he would have done anything differently, and he said, and then its quoted here, was that because its transcribed or was that a recording . A recording. When you asked about this by the Inspector General, this is what you said. Would i have done the same thing . Probably. I think i knew going into this there was a certain amount of risk. Ive never been afraid of risk. Ive gotten my ass in trouble many, many times by the park service, by not necessarily getting permission, ive always pushed the envelope. And then you go on from there. That is your quote, correct . That is my quote. And now youre apologizing because were essentially having a public hearing . No, i apologized a long time ago, long before this hearing. And i apologized directly to the secretary and to the leadership of the National Park service. And that was a mistake. An
