New Delhi, April 22 : The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has asked the Biden administration to impose targeted sanctions on Pakistani government agencies and officials responsible for severe violations of religious freedom.
In its annual report released on Wednesday, the Washington-based commission redesignated Pakistan as a country of particular concern (CPC), for engaging in systematic, ongoing and egregious violations of religious freedom of minorities.
The USCIRF has recommended to the US government to freeze certain Pakistani individuals assets and/or barring their entry into the US under human rights-related financial and visa authorities, citing specific religious freedom violations.
Religious freedom conditions in Pakistan continued to worsen.
There was a sharp rise in targeted killings, blasphemy cases, forced conversions, and hate speech targeting religious minorities.
In 2020, there reportedly were 30 Christians, including seven on death row, jailed in Pakistan on charges of blasphemy, said the report.

Hyderabad: Telangana State Waqf Board on Wednesday during an inspection of three major Waqf properties in Attapur stated that the board is going to take strict action against the land encroachers.
The board also removed illegally erected fencings on the encroached land of 10,000 square yards belonging to Waqf Board.
This move came after National Minorities Commission (NMC) vice-chairman Atif Rasheed on Sunday visited Hyderabad and said he will take up serious action against encroachers of Waqf properties in Telangana.

Hyderabad: National Minorities Commission vice-chairman Atif Rasheed on Sunday said he will take up serious action against encroachers of Waqf properties in Telangana. The NMC chief announced that he will suggest the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs to set up a special task force and enquiry committee to free all Waqf properties from “land mafia” and take action against the “illegal activities” going on in the Telangana State Waqf Board.

Vice chairman of National Minorities Commission, Atif Rasheed, visited Telangana State Waqf Board and a school of Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) and interacted with heads of department and other officials. Mr Rasheed, in the presence of TMREIS secretary B Shafiullah visited TMREIS’ Bahadurpura Girls – 2 school in Nawabsaheb Kunta where he was shown various initiatives and the school curriculum. He was also shown classrooms, dormitories, wellness centre, and dining halls, among other facilities. He interacted with the staff who explained to him how the schools have been functioning.
