The Shawnee News-Star OBU Theatre will present “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” April 30 to May 2 in Shawnee Hall’s Craig-Dorland Theatre on the university’s campus in Shawnee. Showtimes include April 30 and May 1 at 7:30 p.m. and May 1 and 2 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale online at okbu.edu/theatre. Adults are $12 and students are $5. Advance purchase is required as seats will be assigned in family/friend groups to maintain physical distancing. In the play, Edward Tulane, a toy rabbit made of china, becomes unwillingly tossed into a journey he didn’t plan on taking. Yet, through this miraculous journey, Edward learns what it is to love, the sorrow of losing that love, and how to find the courage to love again. Adapted by Dwayne Hartford from Kate DiCamillo’s beautiful novel of the same name, this music-filled play for children and youth is adult-friendly. ....
OBU holds annual ‘Holy Week Chapel OBU Oklahoma Baptist University held its annual Holy Week Chapel Wednesday, March 31, in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. Students and faculty presented musical selections, scripture readings and more, as a worshipful observance of Holy Week leading up to Good Friday and Easter. Several musical groups performed during the service, including the University Chorale, University Ringers and True Voice. Nathan Goforth, sophomore theater major, read scripture during the ceremony. Dr. Chad Payn, assistant professor of sports and recreation, and Dr. Kaylene Barbe, Frank W. Patterson professor of ommunications and professor of communication studies, also served as scripture readers for the ceremony. ....
Tickets on Sale for ‘World Premiere One-Acts’ March 5-7 The Shawnee News-Star Tickets are now on sale for OBU’s production of “World Premiere One-Acts.” Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 5 and 6 and 2:30 p.m. March 7. All performances will take place in Sarkeys Black Box Theater on the OBU campus in Shawnee. Tickets are $5 for students and $12 for adults. Advance purchase is required in order to maintain physical distancing and face coverings are required to attend the performance. Tickets may be purchased online at okbu.edu/theatre. Three plays will premiere during the performance. “Truly, Truly,” was written by Madison Stone, junior creative writing major, and will be directed by Garrett Wheeler, senior theater major. “Snake Eyes: A Dark Comedy,” was written by Zoe Beth Burdess, sophomore theater major, and will be directed by Dr. Hephzibah Dutt, assistant professor of theater and director of theater at OBU.
