Now Six Days in Fallujah is back, with Highwire Games as its new developer, Victura as its new publisher, and brand-new technology and direction to try and valorize a battle that its creators feel hasn’t gotten due attention (despite numerous books, documentaries, Fox News recreations, and even an opera that all center the perspectives of U.S. Marines). Its return has not been warmly welcomed by everyone in the video game community. IGN’s Rebekah Valentine spoke with Arab and Iraqi game developers exhausted and infuriated by the game. Critics claim that Atomic Games, and now new publisher Victura, were always working closer to the U.S. Military than they let on; that the intention has been to encourage enlistment. Peter Tamte, founder of Atomic Games and Victura, is honest about their past creating games for the military, but denies claims the game is a recruitment tool, saying on the game’s FAQ: “The US government is not involved in making the game, nor are there any plans to use it for recruiting.” Victura countered claims of working with the U.S. Military further, stating that interviews were either made through Tamte s contacts organically or were found by a journalist Atomic Games had hired. ....

This proved controversial for several reasons, enough that Konami soon dropped the game and Atomic eventually scrapped it. Well, it s coming back. Kinda. An all-new Six Days In Fallujah was announced today, now an FPS and being both made and published by different companies. Huh. Trailer s below. As before, the game is based on part of the 2004 s Second Battle Of Fallujah, with today s announcement saying it recreates true stories of Marines, Soldiers, and Iraqi civilians who fought Al Qaeda . It says players will lead a fireteam through real-life encounters enabled by unique technology that simulates the uncertainty and tactics of urban combat. ....
