Perry Russo Talks - in Baton Rouge, Part Three

On March 26, 1971, Perry Russo was interviewed by Edward Wegmann, William Gurvich and Sal Panzeca. It s a long transcript - some 95 pages covering a variety of topics. It was the second interview they conducted with Russo; the first being on January 29, 1971 and that transcript is 60 pages. A third interview was in April.

Still, he was young, handsome, moderate and perceived as a rising star. The event was sponsored by the university’s Young Democrats. I am not sure what he spoke about that day – the thoughts of junior senators from Delaware did not matter that much. What counted was his presence. Yet, besides his celebrity status there was also sadness to his story. In 1972 he had lost his wife and daughter in a car accident. Biden personified tragedy and triumph. It was the possibility of more triumph that drew the curious crowd there that afternoon. Some even thought that maybe one day he would be President. ....
