The son of Napier Senior Constable Bryan Farquharson says his father always treated the famous rescue of a boy from Marine Parade s surf as just another day on the job. Farquharson, who was part of the police force for 21 years, lost his battle with cancer on April 30.

When Matt Bertram assumed the role of principal at Napier Boys High in 2016 he expected he would see the completion of a major rebuild well before the end of his time at Hawke s Bay s biggest school.

For 69 years, His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on official engagements of his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, followed royal protocol. The late Prince Philip, however, was not lagging behind when it came to being actively interested in whatever the royal engagement was. This was evident during Queen and Duke s first tour of New Zealand during 1953/54 and their 1963 tour.
Hawke s Bay eagerly awaited the royal couple for their arrival on January 6, 1954 in Napier and then on to Hastings the next day.

A duo from Rathkeale College have taken out the title for 2021 East Coast FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year, after competing for four years in a row.
Year 12 students Jono Harris, 16, and Alex Wyeth, 16, topped the points table for the regional competition.
Meanwhile the Crazy Chickens from Ruahine School won the AgriKids competition.
