Rules needed to stop corruption suspects from leaving country

The High Court yesterday observed that a specific law or rule need to be formulated soon regarding imposition of embargo on corruption suspects or accuseds leaving the country.
There is no specific law or rules for banning the people, against whom inquiries or investigations are running in connection with corruption allegations or cases, from leaving the country though they have rights to free movement according to the constitution, the court said. We hope that the Anti-Corruption Commission and the ministries concerned will take necessary steps to enact a law or formulate a rules to this effect soon, said the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman.

The Supreme Court has cleared the way for a lower court to resume trial proceedings of a 27-year old corruption case filed against Jatiya Party leader and former state minister ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader.
The Appellate Division on Monday upheld a High Court verdict that on March 29, 2017 had cleared the way for the Divisional Special Judge s Court of Barishal to begin the trial proceedings of the case.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain dismissed a leave-to-appeal petition filed by Hawlader challenging the HC verdict.

The High Court today granted anticipatory bail to Shariful Islam Jinnah, Jatiya Party lawmaker from Bogura-2, for three weeks in a corruption case filed for amassing wealth illegally and concealing wealth information.
The HC, however, ordered the accused lawmaker to surrender to the trial court concerned in three weeks in connection with the case.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim came up with the order after Shariful Islam appeared before the bench and filed a bail petition in the case.
