“The progress made to date has been immense and the reduction of cases is a result of the mass vaccination effort, targeted outreach by community partners, and continued adherence to public health measures by the community. However, as vaccination rates plateau the threat of COVID-19 variants increases.” ....

40 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Wednesday

Cases increased from 15,596 on Tuesday May 4th to 15,636 on Wednesday May 5th and 384 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 18 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 20 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 2 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s contact tracing staff.
Variants of Concern
The Health Unit says 1,021 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 47 identified since yesterday).

Aged 18+ And Living In A Hot Spot Postal Code Area? You Can Now Book A Vaccine Appointment In Windsor Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has expanded COVID-19 vaccination booking to those 18 years of age or older living in “hot spot” postal code areas.
Previously the Health Unit’s mass vaccination clinics were only available to those aged 40 and older in hot spot areas, and are available to those aged 50 and older in non-hot spot postal code areas.
The Health Unit’s booking website was updated Monday morning to accept booking from those meeting the new criteria. It comes after the province announced Sunday that booking would be available due to an increase in provincial vaccine supply.

Mass vaccination sites open to 50-plus, 18-plus in hot spot postal codes

Adult residents of seven select Windsor-Essex postal codes as well as anyone age 50 and older can now book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
Starting Monday, anyone age 18 and up living in a neighbourhood identified as a “hot spot” for the virus is eligible for the Pfizer jab at a mass vaccination site. The local chosen postal codes are N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, and N9Y. Those born in 1971 and earlier can book an appointment regardless of where they live.

Adults age 55 and older can now receive a COVID-19 vaccine at mass vaccination sites in Windsor-Essex.
The local health unit on Thursday expanded the age eligibility for the jab, dropping the restriction from 60-plus.

Starting immediately, anyone born in 1966 or earlier can schedule an appointment regardless of where they live or if they have a medical condition that makes them “at-risk” for more severe COVID-19 complications.
Vaccinations are by appointment only. Everyone that schedules an appointment will be asked to attest that they are eligible for the vaccine, and asked to bring a health card to confirm their appointment. Those without a health card can bring any government-issued photo ID instead. ....
