MADISON, Wis. A Wisconsin Army National Guard member and his friend have been charged with entering the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 attack.
Abram Markofski and Brandon Nelson have been charged with four counts including entering and remaining in a restricted building and disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, federal prosecutors announced Monday.
Markofski joined the Guard in 2019 and is currently a private first-class in the 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry, Guard spokesman Joe Trovato said. He declined further comment, saying he couldn’t discuss “personnel matters.” ....

WASHINGTON An Army reservist charged with taking part in the attack on the U.S. Capitol was known as a Nazi sympathizer who wore a Hitler mustache, coworkers told federal investigators.
Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, 30, was employed as a security contractor at a Navy base when he was alleged to have breached the Capitol on Jan. 6, authorities said.
In court papers filed Friday, federal prosecutors in Washington said his coworkers at the Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck, New Jersey, told investigators that he held white supremacist views. ....

The Army can’t say how many soldiers have been kicked out for extremism in recent years, largely because those incidents are filed under the broad category of “misconduct” discharges, according to the service’s response to a Freedom of Information Act request.
Army officials at the Pentagon did not have data that could shed light on the issue either.
“Currently, extremism behavior is not identified by a separate code for discharges,” said Army spokesman Lt. Col. Gabriel J. Ramirez. “As we await further DOD guidance on extremism, we are conducting stand downs across the force and exploring options on ways to further combat this corrosive issue.” ....

A former Army captain and Iraq War veteran was arrested Tuesday in South Florida for his alleged role in the Capitol riot after he was identified by the FBI using Facebook Live videos he made inside the building during the breach.
