Deschutes County allocated nearly 5,300 COVID-19 vaccines for next week
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) The Oregon Health Authority has allocated 5,295 first-dose COVID-19 vaccines to Deschutes County for next week. Vaccine appointments will be scheduled using Central Oregon’s vaccine pre-registration system.
The figure is about 2,500 lower than the allocation the county received for this week, because the state received fewer doses overall, according to Deschutes County Health Services spokeswoman Morgan Emerson.
Invitations to schedule vaccine appointments will be sent to eligible residents who have pre-registered starting Friday. Additional appointment invitations will be sent throughout the week.
More than 3,500 residents will receive second-dose vaccines at the Mass Vaccination Clinic during the week of April 12. ....

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) More Central Oregonians are getting their vaccines and more are fainting after they do. But officials say it s not uncommon, and nothing to be concerned about. 
Morgan Emerson, spokeswoman for Deschutes County Health Services, said there are similarities among the people fainting.
We ve seen that with younger adults and people who are coming for their vaccine that haven t eaten or been very well hydrated,” Emerson said Friday. 
Emerson said a small percentage of people fainting after getting any vaccine is completely normal. ....

On April 5, frontline workers and their families, people over 16 with underlying health conditions and people living in multigenerational homes become eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine in Oregon. Deschutes County was one of 23 counties, including Crook and Jefferson, that expanded eligible groups ahead of the state.
After gaining approval from the Oregon Health Authority, St. Charles Health System began sending invitations on March 31 to newly eligible Central Oregonians who pre-registered at centraloregoncovidvaccine.com. Last week, 3,000 members of this group deemed Phase 1B Group 7 in the state s vaccine rollout received their first shot at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center. ....
