Reporter they had a public unveiling and a News Conference where they talked about the new earthquake Early Warning system via that my shake app. The media still here, about to leave the pier where we are. The app called, my shake, is free to download and was developed by uc berkeleys seismologists and also from around the west coast. University of washington and oregon as well. It will not be able to predict . But the app can alert users to take cover and prepare seconds before shaking, the shaking of a major quake reaches them. The system uses sensors buried in the ground across the state and it detects the start of earthquake, calculates the location and intensity and send a warning to your phone if youre in an area where shaking is likely to happen. It works similar to the amber alert system using the same wireless notification system to send out those warnings. At the unveiling and this News Conference,
Good evening. Devon joins us now live at minetta san jose where the parking lots were completely fooled this holiday weekend. Passengers had to do some scrambling. Reporter that is exactly right. The airport has nearly 10,000 parking spots. It wasnt enough this weekend. The problem appears to be getting worse. For nearly 9 hours on saturday every single spot in every single san jose airport was completely full. Leaving departing passengers scrambling to find offsite parking or risk missing their flights. Every time i come here i only have an hour range before my flight starts. If i came here and there is no part spot. I could not imagine that. It is going to be disruptive. Ive been coming out here long enough now that i remember when it was much smaller than this. I think it has grown far greater than anyone imagined.
