That wraps up todays white house briefing. We now return to last Thursdays Senate commerce meeting on fcc oversight. The serenity they necertaint build at scale. Capital, talent is scarce. Innovation doesnt have to visit. The more difficult it is, the less likely we hare to get it. And its consistent, i would add, with three years of reforms we have made oven with great heat taken. They have been a proven concept for a regulatory approach. I think the reforms, the ones you championed in the steam line act, would have us close the Digital Divide. The period is a marked contrast from the prior eight years. We wasted a tremendous amount of time chasing around partisan little agendas, rather than focusing on what matters. I think this pandemic has pult Telecom Policy in a crucible. That is what we have to focus on. On closing the Digital Divide. That is where we have been the last three years and its paying off results. We have not raised the mission divide yet. And the u. S. Infrastructur
We know theyre still in there. Its after 5 00 right now. Paula, walk us through what happens if the grand jury decides to indict donald trump and or any of his allies. Reporter we expect the indictment also be for over a dozen people. The former president s lawyers say they do expect he will be among those indicted. We would expect the District Attorney would seek an indictment from the grand jury and it would go to the Clerks Office where we will most likely get our copy. Then it will be made public and well be able to read about the charges. One of the things thats unclear, jake, is when the former president would appear for his initial appearance and a potential arraignment. In the federal cases that happened quickly. Down in georgia, sources telling cnn that the former president s team expects it may take a little longer to have his first appearance down in georgia if hes indicted. Paula reid, thanks so much. As those witnesses continue to testify before the grand jury in atlanta,
Families and lets finally give americans access to paid leave. I urge my colleagues to join me in this fight and pass the family act. I now would like to yield the floor to my colleague who is also going to speak about why this is good for america. Ms. Duckworth mr. President. The presiding officer the senator from illinois. Ms. Duckworth thank you, mr. President. I want to thank my colleague from new york on the floor today for her leadership in this very important issue. Im here to help discuss one of the most pressing issues facing American Families all across the country, our nations outdated family leave policies. About two weeks ago i announced i am expecting a baby girl in april. The support since my announcement has been overwhelming. I received so many congratulations and lots of questions about my daughter to be. And i was also asked how i expect to handle having a newborn and 3yearold as i continue my work here in the United States senate. I know these questions come from a
Is it federal or state and local job . It is a job of every local government. City, county, state, federal. When i was in the state legislature i discovered we had passed laws that essentially banned 56 provisions from people who had been incarcerated. One was you wouldnt get a license to barber. Yet in state prison we taught barbering. Then the individual couldnt get a license. So we had to pass legislation to undo that. So when the war on drugs started in the 1980s we passed 2,000 laws of the years. We banned people from working. We need to look at a lot of legislation passed over the years and essentially unwind some of it. But we do have to create supportive services. People need support groups to help them do basic things, get their i. D. S, drivers license, may back child support, get their children back if their children have been entered into foster care. One of the things we dont pay a lot of attention to is the fact that a lot of people have been incarcerat incarcerated. The
