Court documents allege the murder-accused stole a man s car from Akaroa, robbed a second man of his car in Christchurch, and gave false information to police. They also allege he robbed a third man of a car and cellphones, used a weapon to cause the man grievous bodily harm, and strangled the man by applying pressure to his throat and neck. The offending against that man allegedly happened on Friday. Hawkins, aged in his 50s, lived alone in a unit at a new social housing complex managed by the Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust, which opened in January. The former Mongrel Mob member was charged with family violence related offending in March and released on electronically monitored bail in early April.

The death is now at the centre of a homicide investigation. It is understood the case is considered a ‘whodunit’, meaning police do not know the identity of the killer or killers. The man lived alone in a unit at a new social housing complex managed by the Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust (ŌCHT), which opened in January. Another 30 units were occupied by new tenants this month. On Sunday afternoon, Detective Inspector Scott Anderson appealed for sightings of the victim s grey Holden Calais, with the registration LDE987, on Saturday. The vehicle, which was usually parked outside the man s home, was believed to have left Brougham St at 11.15am and was abandoned 20 minutes later and 9 kilometres away on Monsaraz Blvd near Halswell Rd.
He was charged with taking another man s car from Akaroa, robbing another man of his car in Christchurch, giving false information to police. He was also accused of robbing another man of a car and cellphones and causing grievous bodily harm with a weapon on Friday, and strangulation of that man by applying pressure on his throat and neck. The man who was fatally stabbed at his home in a Christchurch social housing complex on Saturday was a former gang member who was on electronically monitored bail for family violence charges. Kenneth Daniel Hawkins was found by neighbours at his home in Hastings St East with critical injuries about 3pm on Saturday. He had been stabbed and died at the scene.
