bryan kohberger s attorney said he drove to pennsylvania with his father. kohberger s attorney was told that he was driving home for the holidays. authorities tracked the suspect all the way to pennsylvania and watched him for days before finally making an arrest in the middle of the night. veronica miracle is following the story for us from moscow, idaho. what s the mood like now there after there s actually finally an arrest? reporter: paula, the community of moscow has really been on edge for the last seven weeks. it has been very tense here. businesses have shut down early so their employees could get home at a reasonable hour. in fact, other businesses say that some of the employees left the city because this is a college town. students make up a lot of the employees. they didn t feel safe being here. there s such a sense of relief now. of course, it doesn t change the fact that these four gruesome murders happened at the house behind me in this very seemingly safe com
georgia bulldogs edges out ohio state here in atlanta. i m pamela brown in washington. you are live in the cnn newsroom on this holiday. happy new year. we begin tonight with a major development in the idaho murder investigation. for the first time we re hearing from the parents the suspect in the case, bryan kohberger. he s facing four counts of first-degree murder. jean casarez is in pennsylvania where kohberger remains in isolation at the correctional facility. what are the parents saying? well, pamela, they have released a statement and i want to read this to you. the attorney for bryan kohberger, jason labar, tells me that when he was arrested friday morning and the family is telling him about 3:00 in the morning, but brian labar tells me what happened was they wept to the front door and that bryan s father actually answered the door. it was law enforcement. we know it was the fbi. we know it was pennsylvania state police. it was in the middle of the night. we al
where the suspect is being held. good afternoon. if. reporter: good afternoon. that s right, mike, he is being held right here behind me at the monroe county correctional facility, and there s a lot of legal maneuvering going on this weekend about those extradition plans now that he has a public defender who has said that he plans to go back to idaho. he is going to waive his extradition hearing and he wants to go back to fight those charges. as we take a look at that mug shot that we have here from this jail, the attorney says kohberger is waiving that extradition hearing so he can quickly be brought to idaho, adding he s eager to be exonerated. we are also learning more about what led to the sudden stop of the cleanup at the crime scene in moscow, idaho, last week, the day kohberger was arrested here in pennsylvania. something that was briefly discussed on friday by idaho investigators. the house cleanup has been halted, and that came by a legal request from the court.
captions by vitac www.vitac.com it s been four weeks since students were found dead. late today, arrested a suspect in the killings. i m pamela brown in for anderson and i m getting new information from a source familiar with the investigation. we re learning about. the suspect actually drove cross country from idaho to his parents home in pennsylvania, and arrived there around christmas. the source telling me, it was a combination of dna found at the crime scene, as well as the car that helped authorities figure out who their suspect was last week. and that is when law enforcement got together to sort all this out and then they made the arrest, culminating and everything happening today. they announced the arrest of bryan kohberger. this is his booking photo. he is a graduate student from washington state university, less than 10 miles from where the four victims attended school. he was arrested in pennsylvania on four counts of murder in the first degree. plus, a sep
