At the public meeting, organisers said they needed to raise about $110,000 to legally challenge the Nelson City Council’s 2019 Future Development Strategy, and to contest the proposed subdivision at an upcoming Resource Management Act (RMA) hearing. A key part of the group s argument alleges inadequate consultation in the 2019 Future Development Strategy. Dr Aaron Stallard told the meeting the council did not make its intentions clear about the possibility the Kākā Valley would be considered for housing – when in 2006 a previous document had ruled out any development due to strong public opposition. ....
