Alabama Walmarts, Sam’s Clubs to begin distributing COVID vaccine this week: Here’s where

Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies in Alabama will begin administering COVID-19 vaccines on Friday.
Eligible customers can schedule a vaccine appointment via the Walmart and Sam’s Club websites once appointments are available, while the allocation lasts. Vaccines will be available to those who meet the current phase of vaccine eligibility in Alabama, which can be found at the Alabama Public Health website.
Alabama is one of 22 states receiving federal vaccine allocations this week, with an emphasis on underserved communities with limited access to healthcare. ....

MEMPHIS, Tenn. Fannie Stanberry had been on the job for two months as a package handler at FedEx Express’ massive World Hub when, toward the end of her overnight shift, packages started to fall from a huge shipping container that rolled past her.
As Stanberry, then 61, bent to pick up the packages, she fell and became trapped between the catwalk she’d been standing on and the wheeled platform carrying the shipping container, also known as a dolly. “I thought I was a goner,” Stanberry said. She broke eight ribs and her left arm and lacerated her liver, she said. “I had to learn how to walk over again.” ....

Several community leaders announced their retirements last week. During the Dec. 17 City of Hinesville Council meeting, Hinesville Police Chief Bill Kirkendall announced it would be his last meeting as Chief of Police. The same day at the County Commission meeting Liberty Emergency Management Agency Director Larry Logan’s retirement was announced. On Dec. 18, Donald Lovette was given a retirement celebration streamed on Facebook Live announcing his retirement from Liberty Regional Medical Center. ....

Last year I brought home a sack of used books from the library book sale, after I worked for a couple of hours at the sale table and helped other people buy some choice titles. One of the books I brought home was “Eighty Years & More: Reminiscences 1815-1897,” by Elizabeth Cady Stanton. It’s a paperback of 490 pages, and a good way to read this book is just a few pages now and then, because it’s packed with dates, travels, people, women’s rights. The index is names of those in the book, and I also penciled some notes at the beginning of each chapter to help me find specific details. The illustrations in the book are photos or drawings of family and friends. ....
