hello, i m frankie mccamley. a number of people have been have been arrested at one of the most prestigious horse races in the world, the grand national. a number of protesters made their way onto the track at antrie their way onto the track at aintree which had delayed the race. as you can see from these images the protesters got right onto the course. animal rights activists had warned they would try to disrupt the world famous race. a large number of police had been deployed to the raceground and they went onto the course to remove the protesters. the start of the race was delayed for m minutes whilst the protesters were cleared from track. the race eventually went ahead and was won by corach rambler ridden by the jockey derek fox. our correspondent sharon barbour has been following the developments in aintree. she s been speaking to protesters to get their perspective on the afternoon s activity. people cut through the defences to get onto the track. you 500 millio ....

the capital, khartoum. the sudanese military has ordered citizens to remain inside amid clashes at the presidential palace and the city s airport. the two sides are in dispute over who governs the country. sudan has been run by the military since a coup in october 2021. a journalist from the washington post newspaper reported 30 people dead and nearly 400 injured, citing the united nations. at least two of the dead are reported at khartoum international airport. earlier, footage there showed large plumes of smoke and fighterjets flying low overhead. and this video from inside the khartoum airport shows passengers taking cover on the floor. major airlines have reportedly suspended flights. un secretary general antonio guterres has denounced the violence, with a spokesperson saying, he spoke with sudan s abdel fattah al burhan and rsf leader general mohamed hamdan dagalo, also known as hemedti, and is calling for an immediate end to violence and a return to dialgue. the ....

jessica elgot and bryan lanza, who was the communications director for donald trump s transition team. we start tonight here in the uk, where immigration minister, robertjenrick, has announced plans to move away from using hotels to house asylum seekers. instead the government intends to use disused military bases in the southeast and east of england in essex and lincolnshire, and a separate site in east sussex. the government s plans are aimed at reducing spending on hotels and detering small boat channel crossings. according to research by bbc news, 395 hotels are currently being used to accomodate more than 51 thousand people. the uk says it is spending £6.2m a day on hotels for asylum seekers. mrjenrick told the house of commons that the government is also exploring the possibility of using vessels at sea. but the refugee council has described the proposals as entirely unsuitable . let s listen to some of what the immigration minister had to say today in the comm ....
