(Photo provided/ David Russell) With many efforts already in progress to increase broadband connectivity in rural Michigan, another plan is in the works from one of the state’s congressmen. U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, who represents Michigan’s 4th Congressional district which covers parts of 15 counties in the central and northern regions of the Lower Peninsula, recently announced the Broadening Online Opportunities through Simple Technologies Act, which would help homeowners cover the cost of connecting online.

Wednesday, Feb. 17 9:47 p.m. Officers responded to a harassment compliant in the 3100 block Fairlane Street. 9:06 p.m. Officers responded to a domestic assault in the 2500 block of Abbott Road. 8:54 p.m. A 39-year-old man called 9-1-1 because he thought he was drugged and taken advantage of the night before. Deputies spoke with the man and his mother that takes care of him full time. The mother said her son has a serious brain injury and hallucinates if he uses drugs with his prescription medicine. The mother said this is an ongoing issue with him and that she is in the process of getting him better help.

A 35-year-old woman reported she was strangled and assaulted by her 33-year-old boyfriend. The man had left the residence prior to deputies arriving, and was not located. The woman suffered minor injuries but refused EMS.
