NSLC may offer home booze delivery later this year

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation may offer home delivery for alcohol this spring or summer.
Beverly Ware, spokesperson for the Crown corporation, said responses to a recent tender are being evaluated based on responsible delivery and consistent service provincewide.
It s quite different to be able to offer home delivery in downtown [Halifax] than it sort of is in rural areas of Cape Breton, Ware said in an interview. ....

The Nova Scotia government has announced $500,000 to support overdose prevention sites as part of the battle against opioid addiction in the province.
The sites allow drug users to inject drugs in a supervised, safer environment. On-site staff provide fresh needles and connect clients to treatment programs and other services. 
Every overdose death is a tragedy, Health Minister Leo Glavine said in a news release Friday. ....

Emergency department closures continue to be a stubborn problem in rural Nova Scotia.
In the western health zone, the emergency department at Shelburne s Roseway Hospital was closed for 2,659 unscheduled hours, up from 1,719 hours over the same period in 2018-19.
There were also big jumps in unscheduled closures at Fishermen s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg (1,409 hours compared to 257.5); the Annapolis Community Health Centre in Annapolis Royal (1,534 hours compared to 261); and Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton (770 hours compared to 100). ....

Doctor exposed to COVID-19 at work questions end of isolation pay program

A Nova Scotia doctor is questioning the province s decision to cut a program that paid physicians in isolation after he was exposed to COVID-19 at work during the second wave.
Health Minister Leo Glavine said at the time the program was no longer necessary because physicians hadn t been exposed in the second wave, and most doctors could work from home.
The comments came as a surprise to Dr. Sam Hickcox, a hospitalist who works in the Central Zone. He was exposed to COVID on Nov. 18. ....
