A New York appeals judge left the state’s indoor mask mandate in place Tuesday while Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration appeals a lower court’s decision to overturn it.
St. Clair County's mask mandate for grade K-12 schools will not be extended past Friday's deadline. That's according to Medical Health Officer Dr. Annette Mercatante. Speaking to WPHM's Paul Miller Tuesday morning, Dr. Mercatante says the decision to issue the order late last month under the Michigan Public Health Code was a difficult one, but she stands by it. "We predicted a big increase in cases in school age children to the point where we anticipated schools would have to pause," said Mercatante. "As a result of the mask order, we saw far less than half of those cases." The St. Clair County Health Department strongly recommends masks continue to be worn in K-12 setting as well as all public and crowded spaces until viral transmission rates are below 10%. Mercatante and the Health Department have been the subject of increased scrutiny from the public and the County Board of Commissioners due to the mask orders.
