Racial favouritism claims behind Samwuâs march against City By Okuhle Hlati Share Cape Town - A senior City of Cape Town traffic officer was allegedly told by his bosses that the junior officer who apparently swore at him and threatened to âf him upâ cannot be charged or sanctioned as he had a new car and house. The incident allegedly happened in front of the officerâs colleagues. Instead of facing disciplinary action, the junior officer was allegedly transferred to work in Bellville. This was one of many complaints of alleged biased disciplinary procedures, victimisation and favouritism towards white staff, the South African Municipal Workersâ Union (Samwu) said it has received. ....

Disciplinary procedures were initiated against 500 firefighters last month, following a two-year dispute over working hours. The City of Cape Town has accused Samwu of delaying tactics. International Firefighters Day in Cape Town has been marred by a war of words between the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) and the City of Cape Town. Samwu has ripped into the City, accusing the it of enslaving its firefighters. Cape firefighters threaten DA to intervene in dispute or face losing votes By Bulelwa Payi Share Cape Town - The City of Cape Townâs firefighters have taken their dispute with the municipality to the doorstep of the DA â threatening the party to intervene or face losing votes. The action came as the City told 439 of the firefighters that if they pleaded guilty to the charges they faced for âstriking illegallyâ in 2019, they would avoid disciplinary action. In addition, they would be slapped with a final written warning valid for 12 months and four days suspension without pay. In a march to the DA offices on Saturday, the party was told to intervene or face being punished at the polls in the upcoming local government elections on October 27. ....
