thank you, cal perry. nbc s mike memoli is standing by at the white house, mike, welcome on this sunday. the president is facing fallout for that speech in poland yesterday. those nine words in particular. what are we hearing from lawmakers today? reporter: well, alex, why we re hearing so much concern is what the president essentially signaled in his remarks, even if the white house was quick to walk it back, was something of a policy change on the part of the biden administration. for the months starting with the buildup of more than 200,000 russian troops on ukraine s border and ultimately that invasion, what has the biden administration been calling for? a de-escalation on the part of russia. as president biden has resisted calls from ukraine, from some of our allies, to even do more in the form of a no-fly zone or additional advanced weaponry, the white house has said they were reluctant to do so because they did not want to take any action that would be seen as an escalation.
