Wonderful characters from a diverse array of books leaped off the pages into the classrooms at Ballydesmond National School last Friday as children and staff celebrated World Book Day in style. We have been celebrating World Book Day in our school for many years. The children love it. It s a break from the routine of work and gives them the opportunity to foster a love of reading and books, teacher Ella O Sullivan told The Corkman. The children had a wonderful time, we had everyone from Captain Underpants to Harry Potter and from cowboys to unicorns enrolling for the one day event. It is lovely to see the children get such enjoyment from books and reading, Ella said. ....

- The Drum Theatre is welcoming back audiences as part of launching its 2021 season. The headline acts include Carmen by Opera Australia, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow and Tell Me Why by Archie Roach. Bukjeh is one of first shows of the season, with Palestinian artist Aseel Tayah collaborating with Australian and international artists to share the experience of migration and the refugee experience. Set in a disaster relief tent, Bukjeh is a series of interactive installations and performances. It invites the audience into the suitcases, sacks and pockets of those who have had to leave home, exploring their feelings, emotions and experiences. ....
Mark Morris, lead singer of Britpop favourites The Bluetones, will perform live at Heswall Hall Music-loving residents of Wirral who have been starved of their fix of live performances during the pandemic may have some light at the end of the tunnel. Heswall Hall has announced a run of socially-distanced shows, planned to start in May and one of them features some 90 s Britpop royalty. Singer songwriter Mark Morris famously made his name fronting English indie outfit The Bluetones. Mark fronted the four piece over a successful and fruitful 15 year period, scoring 14 top ten singles and three top ten albums, whilst touring the UK, Europe and Japan, before temporarily disbanding in 2011. ....
