BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council approved a five year contract extension with Republic Services on Monday night for trash, recycling and bulk item pickup in the City on Bronson.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says for a longer term extension, Republic Services was willing to lower the monthly charge per home from the current rate of $17.39 to $15.91 for the first year of the contract.
The rate would then increase three percent annually which amounts to, on average, a 50 cent increase each year.
Mersman points out that under the proposed contract it would be year four until the current rate of $17.39 would be in place.

Technology upgrades are coming to the Bronson Police Department. The Bronson City Council Monday approved the purchase of two new TASER energy weapons from Axon Enterprise. The department applied for and received a $1,200 grant from the city’s insurance carrier, Michigan Township Participating plan. Axon Enterprise provided a quote of $2,649.60 for two new TASER energy weapons.
The department will also get two new computers and a printer, as city council approved the $3,024 purchase. The computers will replace two purchased in 2013 and 2014. Although over the $2,500 budgeted for computers, the balance will come from the Police Salvage fund, according to city manager Brandon Mersman.
