Man Who Saved 2-Year-Old in Marshall House Explosion Dies
The man dubbed a hero for running back into a Marshall home after it exploded to save a two-year-old girl dies from his injuries.
A sad update to pass along nearly one month after a home in Marshall, Michigan exploded leaving 8 seriously injured. A release from the Marshall Fire Department Chief Martin Erskine confirms the 38-year-old male who had been hospitalized for his injuries at the University of Michigan Hospital succumbed to his injuries and died on Friday (5-7-2021).

Family members of the 38-year-old identify him as Dustin Boggess. They say Dustin was a hero even before sacrificing himself to run back into the Marshall home on April 12, to save the 2-year-old female victim. ....

3 still hospitalized after explosion, fire in Marshall

MARSHALL - Three people, including a 2-year-old girl, remain in hospitals following a gas explosion and house fire more than a week ago.
Marshall Fire Chief Martin Erskine said Tuesday two adults, a man, 38, and woman, 27, are at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. The woman s daughter, 2, remains a patient at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Two other people, a man, 38, and woman, 43, were released from Bronson Hospital last week. A man, 36, a woman, 35, and a boy, 10, were treated and released shortly after the incident.
Police Chief Josh Lankerd said Tuesday that names of the people injured are not being released pending notification of next of kin and as the investigation into the exact cause of the explosion and fire remain under investigation. ....

Marshall Explosion that Injured Eight Caused by Natural Gas
Natural gas is cited as the cause of the Marshall house explosion and fire that left eight injured, three seriously.
While the investigation is still ongoing by Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Department, foul play is not suspected at this time. Marshall Fire Chief Martin Erskine described the escape of all occupants in the home as miraculous in a press conference held Monday, April 13.

While their escape is miraculous, none of the eight were fortunate enough to escape injury. All eight individuals in the home suffered burns and other injuries and were hospitalized following the explosion. Three of the victims have since been released. ....
