An argument over taking out the trash preceded a double homicide in Cumberland County last month, according to testimony at the suspected gunman’s preliminary hearing this week.
An East Pennsboro police officer testified Thursday that someone called 911 and summoned police to John Miller’s home in the first block of Greenmont Drive at 6:39 p.m. April 10 on a domestic dispute. Officers arrived at 6:45 p.m. and talked to residents, including Miller, 78, who complained his daughter would not take out the trash and he wanted to kick her out of the house. ....

The main event on Cumberland County’s primary election ballot is the battle for an open judgeship in the county courts.
Two attorneys are seeking the bench seat currently occupied by Judge Tom Placey, who is battling a judicial misconduct case and opted against seeking a new 10-year term.
Placey has been charged with improper conduct in five cases in which, as the presiding judge, he lost his temper and berated litigants and attorneys. The judge, in his defense, has argued that his outbursts may were attributable to the effects of concussions that he suffered while playing college sports. ....

Dickinson School of Law brought me to Cumberland County in 1995, and for over 20 years I have served the residents of Cumberland County. My family and I serve our Country, our State, our County, and our Community. A woman shot in the head in a double shooting in East Pennsboro earlier this month has died, turning the crime into a double-homicide.
Melissia Hinton-Miller, 65, died Tuesday from her injuries after spending nearly two weeks in the hospital, according to Cumberland County First Assistant District Attorney Michelle Sibert. Her name previously was released as Melissa but Sibert confirmed Thursday that the spelling of her first name is Melissia. ....

John Miller, 78, of East Pennsboro Township, is accused of shooting his daughter and his wife Saturday. Police say his daughter died in the shooting and his wife received life-threatening injuries.
A double shooting in East Pennsboro last week that killed a woman happened less than four minutes after police left the house for a domestic disturbance, according to dispatch records obtained by PennLive.
Police originally said they had been at the house in the first block of Greenmont Drive “a short time” before the April 10 killing of Joanna Miller, 51, and wounding of Melissa Hinton-Miller, 65. But they did not provide the exact time frame. ....
