I am so excited to be hosting ted live here at the town hall in new york city. The theme is war and peace, and before we continue any further, i just want to acknowledge the men and women who have served or are currently serving in our armed services. You and your families are especially welcome tonight, so thank you. [applause] he grew up wanting to be an actor, but his path to the stage was anything but direct. Please welcome actor and veteran adam driver. [applause] i was a marine with 1 1 weapons company, 81st platoon out in camp pendleton, california. Rah. Audience rah i joined a few months after september 11th, feeling like i think most people in the country did at the time, filled with a sense of patriotism and retribution and the desire to do something, that coupled with the fact that i wasnt doing anything. ....
