DIGHTON On Oct. 14 Virginia Silvia will turn 99. But now at age 98, she s already the oldest person living in Dighton. So on June 28 her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the town got a head start on wishing her a happy birthday with a special award, the Boston Post Cane. Silvia, who still lives in her own home, seemed unfazed by the accolades, which included a certificate of recognition from the selectmen and her name s inclusion on the town s Post Cane recipients plaque. I thank the man up there, she said, pointing her own cane upward when asked the secret of her longevity. ....

Baker s decision to stop giving vaccines for distribution to most municipalities in Massachusetts. Concerned that too few people in Taunton and Bristol County have had a chance to be vaccinated, this week, Taunton Mayor Shaunna O Connell wrote Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services Marylou Sudders urging her to consider increasing vaccine opportunities for Tauntonians. The Weekly Vaccination Report posted on Thursday, February 18th contains alarming information. In the entire state, Bristol County has the lowest number of vaccine doses shipped by percentage of county population, O Connell wrote. ....
DIGHTON A former Lakeville town administrator, Raynham s treasurer/collector and the director of the Norfolk County Commissioners Office are the three finalists for the position of Dighton town administrator. The three candidates, Maureen Candito, Michael King and Michael Mullen, were chosen by the town s consulting firm, Community Paradigm Associates, after a quick but detailed search that followed the Dec. 4 application deadline. Twenty-nine applicants were whittled down to nine then six then three through a series of interviews by the consultant and a panel of former managers. The selectmen will get their turn to interview the trio on Jan. 19 and 21 so the town can make its final choice. ....
