The incidents are each under investigation by agencies such as Gary police, the Lake County Sheriff, DNR and the Lake County Prosecutor s Metro Homicide Unit.
The Homicide Task Force will fill a void left when Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez announced in December that he would be disbanding the Metro Homicide Unit and deploying those detectives elsewhere within the department. Six Gary Police detectives will be assigned to the task force along with two ISP troopers. A member of the state excise police will be assigned to the task force to assist in investigations.
