I can assure you that the authors that we are featuring today are serious accomplished economist who is decades who worked to form this publication. The subtitle of the book to economist drink their way through the unfree world gives us the unconventional approach for a couple of academics. That subtitle did not surprise me though. I tend to run in to ben powell and bob lawson at economic or academic conferences around the country and around the world and inevitably had drinks in their hands, probably because we chat at the hotel bars and the like. But the conversation is always interesting, informative and fun. And that is also true of the new book. This is a light book about a heavy topic. So it is fortunate that we are featuring today on the birthday of the late freedman, one of the greatest economist of the 20th century and the champion of economic and overall human freedom. There i got into flight training. I became a naval aviator, and low and behold in 1958 nasa was formed and they were looking for astronauts. And then i said should i go to the academy, they said dont do that, you two years of college, you have Naval Aviation, if you go back you have to start all over again, you might not get back in aviation, but there was an old captain there and he said if you want to make the navy your career, get yourself to the academy, that is what hatppened. So you had probably the three most experienced people at the counsel, and it was a question of who was going to get to do what. Lonnie had been to the moon a couple times. Charlesworth had launched saturns. I had the lunar module experience. You had no driver that said this person ought to be doing this phase of the mission. I was division chief at that time and kraft had been really on top of us to nail down who is going to do what until finally after the apollo 9 mission we all managed to get together, and charlesworth as lead had to make the calls. Although there were problems on every mission we flew during the apollo program. If you could look at the entire report, it is a book about that thick. It is in the archives so you could get it through freedom of information. And as an appendix it lists the problems, we call them anomalies, some people call them funnies, that happened on the flights. And they listed them museum air cally by flight auditor and you ignore apollo 7 and 8, they only have one spacecraft, they didnt fly a landing aircraft. Apollo 13 had the second least number of problems of all of the flights. We almost aborted apollo 14 and apollo 16. They had pretty Serious Problems they were able to work around and allowed them to land. So that was the nature of the business. And as i said, the very theme of this movie that carried very well was the story of somebody in problem, with problems, with a challenge, challenges really to face. And showed a group of people, a team in this case of Mission Control and ourselves.
