Plymouth will amend bylaws after pressure from ACLU over anti-Biden sign

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) Town officials in Massachusetts have been forced to reconsider two town ordinances after forcing a resident to take down a conservative lawn sign.
The Massachusetts chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union threatened the sue the town of Plymouth after an unnamed resident was issued a violation and threatened with fines of up to $300 per day until the sign was removed, the Patriot Ledger reported.
Plymouth claimed that the sign, which read “Biden is not my president,” violated two town bylaws. One was a zoning law that requires political signs to be removed one week after the election they apply to and the other was a bylaw that prohibited “indecent, profane or insulting language” in public spaces. ....

Shelagh Joyce makes surprise resignation from Select Board

Wicked Local
PLYMOUTH – Moments after the Select Board reorganized, member Shelagh Joyce promptly resigned. The announcement came just after Dick Quintal was elected chair and Betty Cavacco was elected vice chair. Joyce had the lone dissenting votes on both nominations.
The meeting opened with Quintal welcoming Harry Helm as the newest Select Board member. He had defeated previous Chair Ken Tavares for the lone seat on the board in Saturday’s Town Elections. Then the reorganization took place, followed by a statement by Helm about his joining the Select Board.
“I would like to echo what Mr. Quintal said after his election as chair,” Helm said. “I want to see a unified Select Board working together for the people of Plymouth. They deserve that.” ....

Plymouth Select Board considers ban of door-to-door sales

Wicked Local
PLYMOUTH – At one time, a knock at the front door often meant someone was selling something. Salesmen and ladies went door to door selling everything from brushes and vacuum cleaners to cosmetics and Bibles.
That sales style fell out of vogue some time ago, and now a knock on the door usually means someone is there with an unsolicited offer to sell something.
That scenario may soon be a thing of the past altogether in Plymouth. The Select Board is considering an outright ban of door-to-door sales because of the annoyance it causes.
“I have a solar company at my house at least once a week,” said board member Betty Cavacco during a recent hearing. “I also get phone calls from the elderly or others who are not used to it, asking who these people are. I do support this.” ....
