Agencies, businesses band together to promote Plymouth's 400th in 2021

Wicked Local
PLYMOUTH – If all goes as hoped, the town could get a lot of roadside attention this summer. Up to 20 billboards could show up on the state’s highways and byways to let travelers know that Plymouth’s 400th anniversary commemoration is alive and well.
A consortium of local organizations has applied for $150,000 funding from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism to pay for the road signs. In addition, numerous businesses have agreed to donate money for the unified effort, dubbed “400 Years – My Local Plymouth.”
“If we receive it, this marketing grant will add much-needed funds to help us recover after the devastating loss of our 400th anniversary year,” said Lea Filson, president and CEO of See Plymouth, one of the sponsoring groups. “Our campaign will build on the already successful ‘My Local MA ‘campaign and promote Plymouth’s extended 400th anniversary through Thanksgiving.” ....

Meet Kelsey Casey, Plymouth s new library director
Wicked Local
PLYMOUTH – The new director of the Plymouth Public Library blends an old-fashioned love of books and reading with a keen understanding and appreciation of new-fangled services and technology.
Kelsey Casey loved reading so much as a child growing up in New Jersey that she worked in her elementary school library during recess. It gave her a head start on picking out the four or five books she often read a night.
Years later, as director of a small public library in Southeastern Connecticut, Casey helped develop the library into a community resource and upgraded its online collection just in time for the pandemic rush. ....

Plymouth officials still trying for local COVID-19 vaccine site

The limited availability of vaccines in Massachusetts has been a major issue. At the present time, the state is only receiving 100,000 doses each week to treat the estimated 1 million residents who are currently eligible – twice, since this is a two-round vaccination process.
“We may, in the future, have a local vaccine option in the town,” Arrighi said. “However, that is in the early stages of planning and there is no guarantee that will occur. Much is depending on the reliability of receiving actual vaccines.”
In the meantime, the town manager is urging those eligible for vaccinations – currently, 75 and older – to contact the Center for Active Living if they are having difficulties in doing so. Social outreach workers at the senior center are assisting residents make appointments and answering their questions. ....
