John Mack Jr. indicted for murder in death of ex-girlfriend

MANSFIELD - John Mack Jr. could face the death penalty if convicted on aggravated murder charges in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Melinda Kay Davis.
Mack was indicted on 17 counts Wednesday including aggravated murder, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence.
Davis, 33, of Shelby, was reported missing Feb. 25 and her body was found in the trunk of her car March 14 in an apartment parking lot on the western edge of Columbus.
A Richland County grand jury met in a special session this month and found that Davis death occurred while the offender was committing, attempting to commit, or fleeing immediately after committing or attempting to commit kidnapping and either the offender was the principal offender in the commission of the aggravated murder or, if not the principal offender, committed the aggravated murder with prior calculation and design. ....

Richland County Sheriff’s Office during a Monday news conference said that the
‘macabre’ discovery was made after a citizen tipped off Columbus police about Davis’ disappearance on Feb. 25.
Court documents reveal Davis telling a friend she was on her way to Mansfield to see her ex-boyfriend,
John Henry Mack Jr and to reach out to authorities if she didn’t get back in touch with her afterward.
‘If you don’t hear from me, call the police,’ Davis said.

The body of a missingOhio woman has been found in the trunk of her car 18 days after she vanished, investigators said Monday.
Melinda Kay Davis, 33, was last heard from on Feb. 25 while driving to her ex-boyfriend s house in Mansfield, Richland County Sheriff Steve Sheldon told reporters at a news conference.
Sheldon said police located the mother of four s black Volkswagen Jetta at an apartment complex in Galloway, about 20 miles west of Columbus, on Sunday night after getting a tip from a citizen. Officers found Davis body inside the trunk of the car. ....

Melinda Davis: Ex Charged with Kidnapping After Woman Found Dead
