Annapurna Names Adam Paulsen Head of Film and EVP, Hires Jack Parker as Creative Executive Both execs formerly of Valparaiso Pictures will report to CCO Sue Naegle and COO Chris Corabi Brian Welk | June 28, 2021 @ 2:31 PM Photos by Joseph Rivkin and courtesy of Annapurna Pictures Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures has hired Adam Paulsen, formerly of Valparaiso Pictures, as its executive vice president and head of film and Jack Parker as a creative executive, the company announced Monday. Both Paulsen and Parker will report to CCO Sue Naegle and COO Chris Corabi. They join a film team that also Jess Biddle, Annapurna’s director of development. ....
National Champions Cast Adds Kristin Chenoweth, Lil Rel Howery & More National Champions has added three performers to its cast. New to the film are Kristin Chenoweth ( Holidate, Fatherhood, Free Guy). The trio of co-stars joins the National Champions cast that already includes Stephan James, J.K. Simmons, Uzo Aduba, and Alexander Ludwig. Also attached to the film are Andrew Bachelor, David Koechner, Tim Blake Nelson, and Timothy Olyphant. Chenoweth will play Bailey Lazor, who is the wife of JK. Simmons’ Coach Lazor. More than just a wife, Bailey is said to have “the erudition and taste of an Upper East Sider.” Meanwhile, Donovan plays an executive named Mike Titus that calls an NCAA meeting after a star quarterback begins to boycott the big game. Finally, Howery is set to play the team’s defensive coordinator named Coach Dunn. ....

Despite limitations of remote sales events, producers are warming to the idea, and agents are finding that video presentations can sometimes make for better pitches. Last month marked one year since much of Europe and the U.S. was plunged into pandemic lockdown. The independent film sector which revolves around and depends on annual festivals and markets appeared to be particularly exposed. When SXSW was pulled in March 2020, other festivals followed. Both sellers and buyers faced a predicament: Producers and financiers wanted to see their projects debut and find fitting homes while distributors needed content to fill their slates and pipelines. By late spring, it became clear that Cannes would not be happening, and that something needed to be done to address this huge gap. ....
