Mayor Dominic Foppoli resigned abruptly on Friday, and now the town of Windsor has to fill a vacancy.
The Windsor Town Council can fill the Mayor’s seat with either a special election or appointment of one of the council members. If one of the council members is chosen to serve out the rest of Foppoli’s term, the council would then have to appoint another person to fill that vacancy. A special election would cost anywhere from $50-thousand to $80-thousand dollars. The next Town council meeting will be June 2nd where the council will accept Mayor Foppoli’s resignation and also swear in newly elected council member Rosa Reynoza. Foppoli’s resignation comes as a ninth woman has accused him of sexual assault.

A first step in the recall of Windsor Mayor Dominic Foppoli is expected to occur this morning.
The Recall Foppoli campaign is expected to file a “notice of intent” for the push to recall Mayor Foppoli with the Windsor Town Clerk. Once filed, Mayor Foppoli will have 7 days to respond after which the campaign will prepare a petition for circulation that likely won’t be ready for signing until mid-May. At that point, the campaign will have 120 days to gather signatures from 20% of Windsor’s 16,879 registered voters. Mayor Dominic Foppoli has been accused of sexual assault by multiple women.

(CN) Windsor, California, Mayor Dominic Foppoli said he will “step back from an active role” as leader of the small Sonoma County bedroom community located in the heart of California’s wine country.
“As I have said so many times before, I have loved Windsor my whole life,” Foppoli said in a statement Friday. “Through prayer and in speaking with residents over the course of this week, it has become clear to me that the Town Council will not function at the level expected by its citizens if I remain actively involved, given the strong reaction to the allegations against me.”
