COSHOCTON – The city of Coshocton will turn the intersection of Chestnut and North 16th streets into a four-way stop, even though that doesn’t seem to satisfy residents of the area. The city is receiving a $500,000 Small City Safety Grant through the Ohio Department of Transportation for upgrades of traffic control devices. It’s targeted for summer 2024. Safety Service Director Max Crown said traffic lights in the city range from the 1950s to 1980s. Funding will be used to replace traffic lights along South Second Street and at the intersection of Sixth and Walnut streets, Crown said. The traffic light out of commission at the intersection of Chestnut and North 16th streets dates back to 1952 and cannot be repaired, Crown said. He also said ODOT would be taking the device for a museum display. Removal is supported by a recent traffic study and ODOT recommendation. City officials met with ODOT representatives on the grant project on Monday. ....

City council president stepping down at the end of the month Cliff Biggers leaving role after 9 years as he looks to return to Newark COSHOCTON – The first Black president in the history of Coshocton City Council will stepdown as of March 31. Cliff Biggers said he and his wife, Jennifer, recently sold their home and were looking to move back to Licking County, where they came from in 1983. Biggers served as pastor at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for 29 years, retiring in August 2019. He s also retired as a detective with the Newark Division of Police. After I got finished pastoring a church for 29 years, my wife and I have discussed for years, what would we do after that, Biggers said I think I was put here to serve in many capacities, but mainly to those who are down and downtrodden, those who are overlooked and left behind. ....
