Larry Householder s son among applicants to fill indicted lawmaker s seat

COLUMBUS – A week after the Ohio House of Representatives voted to oust indicted lawmaker Larry Householder, his son Derek applied to be the next Rep. Householder.  Perry County Commissioner Derek Householder was one of 19 who applied to represent the 72nd House District, which includes Coshocton and Perry counties and portions of Licking County. Derek Householder was first elected in 2020, aided by donations from his father s allies.  Derek Householder applied just before the 5 p.m. deadline Wednesday, ultimately convinced that Perry, Coshocton and Licking county voters should have a candidate who has been elected in the area – especially after House lawmakers expelled his father.

Councilmen: Residents want a traffic light, not stop signs

COSHOCTON – The city of Coshocton will turn the intersection of Chestnut and North 16th streets into a four-way stop, even though that doesn’t seem to satisfy residents of the area. The city is receiving a $500,000 Small City Safety Grant through the Ohio Department of Transportation for upgrades of traffic control devices. It’s targeted for summer 2024. Safety Service Director Max Crown said traffic lights in the city range from the 1950s to 1980s. Funding will be used to replace traffic lights along South Second Street and at the intersection of Sixth and Walnut streets, Crown said. The traffic light out of commission at the intersection of Chestnut and North 16th streets dates back to 1952 and cannot be repaired, Crown said. He also said ODOT would be taking the device for a museum display. Removal is supported by a recent traffic study and ODOT recommendation. City officials met with ODOT representatives on the grant project on Monday.
