Counter-Service Goodness is Coming to Malcolm Yards Market


The food hall trend is alive and well in Minnesota, and next hitting the scene is Malcolm Yards Market.
The community gathering space from Patricia Wall and Matty O’Reilly will bring new life to the historic Harris Machinery building when it opens to the public in June (although its exact opening date is still to be announced). Given its close proximity to the Green Line, University of Minnesota’s intercampus bus and bike trail, the forthcoming O’Shaughnessy Distillery, and Surly Brewing, the market will feel anything but remote.
The previously vacant building will host nine locally-owned eateries six of which have been announced. The remaining three will hopefully be unveiled soon. A self-pour tap wall will serve a rotating selection of beer, wine, cider, wine, and kombucha, while cocktail aficionados can enjoy a more traditional bar experience by bellying up to the boxcar bar. ....

Saying goodbye to a beloved watering hole, a neighborhood café or a four-star restaurant is never easy. But in 2020, the pain kept coming as the pandemic brutalized the Twin Cities hospitality industry. Some restaurants, already hurting from dining restrictions, were swept up in the destruction that unfolded in the Minneapolis and St. Paul riots. Again and again, places that surprised and delighted us, that entertained and nourished us, served their last meals.
