The Bryant is a new 32-storey tower on Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan. It contains a 226-key hotel on the first 13 floors and 57 private residences above, with restaurants, retail and separate entrances at street level. Shared amenities include a terrace for use of residents, hotel guests and the public. Owing to its prominent location, the brief called for a respectful design that adhered to the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission conditions. David Chipperfield clads 11-19 Jane Street in red concrete and brick

British practice David Chipperfield Architects has realised 11-19 Jane Street, an apartment building in New York with a ruddy-hued facade of brick and coloured concrete.
The new six-storey building, which replaces a parking garage that dated from the 1920s, is located in the city s Greenwich Village neighbourhood.

To complement the mix of 19th and 20th-century buildings that bracket it, David Chipperfield Architects designed a twist on traditional townhouse facades for 11-19 Jane Street.
At ground level, the block is given a bold and contemporary feel with a wall of red-pigmented concrete. The same red concrete appears on lintels and mullions on the upper levels. ....

David Chipperfield Reveals Plans to Restore Belgium's Iconic former Grand Hotel in Nieuwpoort

The new design will not impose a style or signature to the building, nor create a contrast between the historic fabric and its new additions, according to the architects. The intervention “
seeks to restore the building’s grandeur while converting it into a residential building for private apartments with a restaurant, bar, and retail on the ground floor along with a residents’ pool at basement level”.
Regaining its status as a landmark on the beachfront, The Grand residential building allows a nuanced reading of the history of the Grand Hotel, designed originally by Belgian architect Apollon Lagache in 1924. Located at the seaside resort of Nieuwpoort, the building deteriorated as the city grew and as war ravaged the waterfront. ....
