Bay County man faces 10-year felonies in child porn case Updated 9:20 AM; BAY CITY, MI A Kawkawlin Township man is facing two felonies for allegedly possessing child pornography. Using a software program that helps law enforcement located child porn online, a Michigan State Police trooper noticed an IP address that from September to November 2019 had been advertising and offering to distribute at least five separate illicit videos. The videos depicted sex acts with children as young as 2, according to police reports contained in court files. Investigators determined the IP address was registered with Charter Communications. On being served with a warrant, the company provided police with information linking the IP address to the Kawkawlin Township residence of 54-year-old Daniel L. Burger. ....

Though the 20-year-old Bay City man accused of pulling the trigger is charged with several felonies, he’s maintained he fired the gun to defend a woman who was being assaulted by the older man. A year and a half later, the case has proceeded to trial. The trial of Trevor J. Payne, now 22, began Wednesday, Feb. 17, in Tuscola County Circuit Court. Payne is charged with single counts of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, plus three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and six counts of felony firearm. ....
