Industrial Reporter FOOD workers’ union BFAWU launched a consultation on whether to disaffiliate from the Labour Party today. The union’s 20,000 members are being asked to contribute to virtual branch discussions ahead of an executive committee decision to be taken in May before the June annual conference. BFAWU, which regularly donates to Labour, has been at the heart of grassroots campaigns for workers’ rights including the “McStrike” campaign for fair pay and conditions at McDonalds. Following Unite’s decision last year to reduce its donations to the party, it is a sign of the growing disconnect between Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour leadership and ordinary working people. ....
