It’s draft day, baby!
The 2021 NFL Draft is set to open at 8 p.m. Thursday. Over the next three days, 259 players will hear their names called and have their NFL dreams come true.
Typically, first-round picks are announced by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. But from there on out, there’s no shortage of special guests announcing a plethora of picks.
Just last year,
Miles Sanders announced the Eagles’ second-round draft pick. That got us thinking: Which Penn Stater would we want to see announce an NFL Draft pick?
Here’s what some of our staffers had to say.
Charles Reinert: Curt Chandler
getting free
stuff.
Freebies can come in all forms: lost items you just so happened to pick up, something you won, or maybe just something someone handed to you on the side of the street. Complimentary items are always fun, but what’s the absolute best free thing you’ve received at Penn State? Our staffers listed off some of their personal favorites.
Jordan Mansberger: ‘Despicable Me’ Minion Battery Charger
During my freshman year, I would often sit in a certain study room to complete work. One day, out of nowhere, this random minion charger showed up and was lying on the table. I originally ignored it, but it stayed there on the table for about three weeks. I almost felt like it was an honor system test to see if anyone would take it, but one day I snapped and decided to keep it. I have never actually used it once, but I like “Despicable Me,” so it is a staple within my backpack.
From online learning to mask-wearing, this year has held a lot of firsts for everyone.
On top of that, this past weekend brought everyone’s first virtual THON, after all. Naturally, we wanted to hear from our newest staffers freshmen and those new to University Park and learn what they took away from their first-ever THON.
Charles Reinert
It was definitely an interesting first THON, to say the least. I’m a 2+2 student, and I have been looking forward to coming to my first THON since I was small.
At Penn State Abington, there was a big involvement with the event, but only a few people would come up for THON itself. I always figured I’d get more involved in THON when my two years at Abington were up, but fate had different plans.
It’s been a year since Penn State’s Student Programming Association (SPA) hosted an in-person event.
It seems like just yesterday students were sleeping in the HUB to secure their free David Dobrik ticket. Then, the pandemic hit and the in-person Q&A event was forced online.
Let’s face it. Virtual concerts and lectures are a decent alternative, but there’s something special about seeing your favorite, oddly specific performers face-to-face in Alumni Hall. While there’s no indication that an in-person SPA event will occur anytime soon, it doesn’t hurt to dream!
Our staffers compiled a list of musicians and celebrities they hope SPA will host for the first in-person event when the pandemic is over.
Have you ever wanted to relive a day of your Penn State experience? How about over and over in an endless loop? While we here at Onward State are not far off on the time travel technology needed to make that happen, our staffers thought, “Hey, what day would we choose?”
Twenty-eight years ago, Bill Murray’s blockbuster comedy, “Groundhog Day,” hit theaters. In the film, Murray plays weather reporter Phil Connors, who finds himself reliving the worst day of his life over and over again until he sees the errors of his ways and becomes a better man.
Our staffers certainly didn’t pick the worst days they’ve had at Penn State to live again and again. Instead, they chose the best, most interesting memories of their Penn State experience.
