colbert. good evening, reverend sharpton. always good to see. i ve been keeping abreast of your activities this week, and want to applaud you for your protest with respect to the pushback that we are facing around d.c. and i efforts across the country. but i do have a quick question for you. for a policy measure, what s it gonna take for us to actually move the needle and finally keep dni from having the attacks that it s currently facing? i think we must make cities, municipalities, states and others, say that the a.i. must be enacted if people are gonna get state city contracts are funds. these businessmen, when we picketed on thursday, i ll do business in the public space. they cannot do public space business with taxpayer dollars if they re not trying to make it an equal place for all. so we need to have politicians putting legislation and policy in place to protect dei. well, that protection doesn t start without any pressure. and so with that, reverend sharp ....
All that is essentially one extended campaign regardless of the formal venue? yeah, it doesn t matter to donald trump whether he s in washington, d.c., saying crazy stuff or even iowa saying crazy stuff. he says crazy stuff wherever he is. and the republicans can t get up and repeat the stop no matter where he happens to be. i think with the trials and all that they benefit him to a degree among the republican primary because they actually don t need to meet him and talk to him, if you meet him and talk to him, he drains your eyebrows is this what we want to do in the course of this. i agree with everything that s been said, donald trump is toxic to the republican party. but donald trump is not toxic within the republican party, and that s the problem. nick pressley, thank you, matt and juanita, stick around so stay with me. coming up after the break, republican hopefuls prepare for yet another presidential debate without donald trump as a former president holds a ....
Trump and republicans, while he s seeing this massive support among primary republican voters that base is kept, it s kept let s be real because the republican party has made it their business to court white supremacists, white nationalists, and no one else beyond that. looking at the reality of what happens in a general election, trump is setting himself for yet another loss as monika pointed out. because of the reality, even though if he attempts to delay which is his favorite tactic when it comes to court, julie any former prosecution, people are still paying attention, they view the evidence, they re rational thinkers and i ll take that with them into the polls in november. matt, quickly, is there any idea or any thought to the idea that even as donald trump goes to court and he s on tv, he goes to campaign and he s on tv, that all of this with the sort of insistence around hammering home these talking points, that ....
Heavily favored, nikki haley is picking up as you said independent voters in new hampshire. the problem for nikki haley, is that she s gonna move to south carolina, where she was governor of and where she lives, where she is 28 points behind because independents can t vote in the republican primary. when you go forward state, after, state were only republicans can vote in the republican primary, there s very little room for her to grow. this race may look like it s competitive at some points after new hampshire, if you look at the states going forward, even if nikki haley somehow surprises people and winds new hampshire, which i think she needs to do, she faces a daunting task south carolina. matt, my friend, to see desantis as ruthless if that s the sick fans i gotta say that trump needs to be ....
Joining me now to have more conversation about this, is congressman robert garcia of california. homeland security and oversight and accountability committees. congressman, thank you so much for being here. just off the top, what are your initial thoughts? do you believe that this is going to be the deal, or at least the beginnings of a deal, that helps us to avoid a government shutdown? i think generally i m pretty cautiously optimistic here. i think this deal is very similar as the deal negotiated by major cuts that a lot of us expected. i think the deal is already very hopeful about where this could lead. republicans are goingo need democrats to vote for the steal. a significant number of caucus members. ....
