But practice times for BPS student athletes has evaporated as demand for meet times by suburban schools has increased as participation in track has tripled with no accompanying growth in facilities statewide.
Boston city councilors approved a resolution on Wednesday on use of the Roxbury center after reports that teams from more affluent suburban districts use it while Boston athletes' access has waned.
Councilors said they were disappointed to see reports that BPS students are practicing in school hallways while the world-class center is used by suburban districts for track meets.
