this is a film about storytelling. about how we tell the story of our country s past. why do we want to believe one version and not another? maybe because it makes us feel safe at night. there is one episode of america s history that is told very differently depending on who you are and where you live. it is the story of our civil war and what came after. the winds of war blew across the land, made of it a country divided. friend turned into foe. brother fought against brother. it was such a long and drawn-out struggle, and the feeling on both sides was so intense. we re all just romantics, lost in contemporary times, you might say. every one of us feels we was born 125 years too late. to introduce myself, my name is rachel boynton. this is nelson walker. hi. we are independent documentary filmmakers. we re making a film about how we tell the story of the civil war. we re filming in lots of different schools, and we re going places with a deep connection t ....

The one thing that does like not concern me but most people here have the same kinds of political views, which, you know, it s great to be around people who think like you, but at the same time, there s no like real conversation. there is no real dialogue and understanding, like people who have different views than you, which i think is how we can move forward. i think that s important. and in order for people to really get your perspective and understand where you re coming from, what s one thing they should know about you? right. i mean, the biggest thing for me is gender. try to present as masculinely as i can, but, you know, people still sometimes take me for a girl. and that s like the biggest thing that s kind of hard for me ....

They do make mistakes. when something bad happens to you, confront it if necessary, deal with it but don t let it poison all of your other relationships. the other thing i would say is don t hide your light under a bushel. be as brave as you are, be as smart as you are, be as confiden confident as you are. don t dumb yourself down or pretend to be as less than you are. i would ask dress yourself down. that comes up for women who run for office, this idea they have to cover themselves up. hide themselves. dress more masculinely. i think that s sort of an edge on that as well. you re right go ahead. not to interrupt you but when i was coming up in the business world, there was this book ....
